“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Have you ever had someone go out of their way to help you, even when they didn’t have to? Maybe it was a stranger who helped carry your groceries, a friend who stayed late just to listen, or someone who showed up in a time of need. There’s something powerful about being served in a way that feels genuine and unexpected. It sticks with you.
Now imagine the impact if each of us lived with that same mindset—not just occasionally, but every day. That’s exactly what Jesus did. The Son of God, with all power and authority, chose not to be waited on, but to serve. He didn’t seek attention or applause; He washed feet, fed crowds, touched the untouchable, and ultimately gave His life for others.
Here’s where it gets personal: if you’ve received the gift of God’s love and grace, you’ve also received a purpose. You are saved to serve.
Too often, we think of service as something for the highly trained, the super-spiritual, or those who have more free time. But serving isn’t about a title or a degree—it’s about seeing people the way Jesus does. It can be as simple as a kind word, a meal shared, a prayer offered, or a need quietly met.
When we serve, something beautiful happens. It’s not just others who are blessed—we are too. Serving reminds us that life isn’t about what we get, but what we give. It shifts our focus outward and connects us to the heartbeat of God. It helps us grow, stretching our faith and opening our eyes to the needs around us.
And no act of service is too small. Jesus said that even giving a cup of cold water in His name matters (Matthew 10:42). What might seem insignificant to you could be life-changing for someone else.
So what about you? Where can you start? Maybe it’s checking in on a neighbor, offering to babysit for a tired parent, volunteering at a local shelter, or simply being present with someone who’s hurting.
You don’t need to wait for a special moment. You just need to be willing.
Take a moment to reflect: What’s one way you can serve someone this week? Ask God to open your eyes to the opportunities around you. You might be surprised how much of a difference you can make when you live a life of love in action.
